LOCAL/REGIONAL

PDXpo | The Portland Design Expo

Wednesday, November 8, 2006
Portland Center for the Performing Arts

Wonder what happened to the AIGA Vendor Showcase? Well, wonder no more.

PDXpo is the reinvented vendor showcase. In its second year under the new name, AIGA Portland is excited to bring you the opportunity to stay connected with your local creative vendors and service providers. Come meet Portland’s most notable graphic arts vendors and service providers, and get real-world answers to your questions, from ink to interface. An encore showing of the Papier Couture collection will be showcased in Brunish Hall at the PDXpo - so in case you missed this amazing and inspiring collection, come see the wonder of this exciting art installation! The Portland Design Expo. 5:30pm, Brunish Hall, PCPA.

You’re invited to a behind-the-scenes peek at the creative workings of Portland-based Second Story. Julie Beeler and Brad Johnson reveal the process behind creating cutting-edge, award- winning media for many of the world’s great museums and cultural institutions. Interactive installations, rich-media websites, online collections (including AIGA’s Design Archives), motion graphics, and videos. They’ve done it all, and done it well. Julie and Brad would simply call it storytelling. But it’s storytelling that draws in broad audiences, yet still feels personal and emotional. Please join us to experience the work behind the wonder. Keynote Speaker. 8:10pm, Newmark Theatre, PCPA.

Portland AIGA is adding a new benefit to membership! Soon, members will receive free access to the online time tracking application Toad Time as part of their membership dues. Toad Time provides an easy way to for design shops and individuals to track hours and tasks, invoice clients and more. Learn more at PDXPO, November 8th.

Socio XIV – Papier Couture Recap

Thank you to all who attended the Socio XIV Papier Couture runway show. The show was sold-out with over 400 people present to view the Oregon Ballet Theatre dancers debut the collection. I think everyone will agree that the dancers were amazing! They danced in the dresses as if they were...well...not made of paper. The response has been remarkable and I am still receiving feedback that the show was creatively inspiring. Yes! That is the reason we share our artwork...to inspire others...to elicit emotion. From that vantage point alone, the show was a great success. You can view the runway show photos at papier-couture.com. Read Lia’s full thank you here.
