PDXpo Recap

Thanks to all who attended this year’s PDXpo. Special thanks are due to Erik Kiaer for his thought provoking presentation on the future of design professionals. Extra special thanks are due to the vendors who participated in this year’s annual showcase and who continue to support AIGA Portland.

Without the support of our vendors, AIGA volunteers, and YOU for showing up, this event would not have been possible. We look forward to bringing you the best in design events in the upcoming year.

Volunteer Spotlight

Shari Chapman
Sparx Creative
Doer of Everything

Shari Chapman graciously volunteered her time to make our first Career Tools Breakfast Series installment a success. With help from the board, she lined up the speakers, booked the venue, managed the RSVP process, and she collected money at the door. When we asked about her experience as a volunteer, here is what Shari had to say:

“I enjoyed working with the AIGA to put on this event. A great group of people trying to do something for the creative good. I enjoyed meeting new people, and renewing some friendships. But mainly it occasionally got me out of my jammies and little home 'office'.”

To Shari, the best smell in the world is mulled wine. What’s the worst smell? Well, it also involves mulled wine, but we’ll just leave it at that.

Many thanks to you, Shari, for all of your hard work!

Eager to Make a Difference?

Are you always looking to stir the pot? Maybe you like to collaborate? If you are interested in becoming a part of the Portland AIGA Board, we would love to hear from you. We are in need a volunteer to fill an open position: Volunteer Coordinator Chair. If you are interested, please contact Kim Malek or Dru Martin.

NATIONAL

Biennial AIGA Design Conference Recap

For those of you who couldn't be among the 2,500 who attended the Boston conference Sept. 15-17, AIGA offers a great resource: Listen to main-stage presentations from the conference wherever and whenever you want via podcasts available at the Design conference web site. The inspiration continues in exclusive back-stage interviews where presenters engage in a discussion that challenges new boundaries of design for professionals and the value of design to society.  Also visit the following blog for independent coverage of the conference: http://www.kottke.org/order/aiga-2005
Next up: AIGA will present the next biennial design conference in the fall of 2007. Dates and location to be confirmed, but we have one hint: it will take place in a location with western sunsets and breathtaking views. Stay tuned.
