Career ToolsspacerCareer Tools Workshop Series
Working With Virtual Teams

Our first Career Tools Workshop was a sold-out success! Special thanks are in order for our volunteer event chair, Shari Chapman, without whom this event would not have happened. Many attendees had great things to say.

"It felt like a peer-to-peer conversation, not a presentation. I loved the small scale. The audience involvement felt like an extension of the discussion, rather than a Q&A. It illustrated the difference in the design community in Portland — personal, realistic, not star struck." Nami Bigos, Mercer Delta ELC

This series will continue with subsequent topics including legal/copyright/licensing issues, accounting for creatives (not to be confused with creative accounting!), career management, insurance, client relations, etc.

If you would like to chair an event such as this, we can always use help from our members. For detailed descriptions of various volunteer positions, please visit http://portland.aiga.org/involved/volunteer.html.

It's Coming...An Improved Portland Online Community
Our goal is to keep Portland designers connected and informed of what is going on in our industry and on a local level. To help facilitate this goal, we will be upgrading our website by the end of this year. The new website will include new features such as:

  • New Look and Content
  • Event calendar (local and national events)
  • Event Registration and Online Payment
  • Local Discussion Forum
  • Dynamic Content
  • Search functionality
  • And more...

We will continue to keep you updated on the progress of this project.

Look into the future and pitch in!

Take a look at the events we have planned for the upcoming year here at AIGA Portland. See anything you like? If so, and you have some spare time, please consider volunteering to help us make these proposed events a success. Without help from volunteers like you, these events would not be possible.

AIGA Design Conference 2005--More Than just a Tea Party

For those of you who couldn't be among the 2,500 who attended the Boston conference Sept. 15-17, AIGA offers a great resource: Listen to main-stage presentations from the conference wherever and whenever you want via podcasts available at the Design conference web site. The inspiration continues in exclusive back-stage interviews where presenters engage in a discussion that challenges new boundaries of design for professionals and the value of design to society.  Also visit the following blog for independent coverage of the conference: http://www.kottke.org/order/aiga-2005

Next up: AIGA will present the next biennial design conference in the fall of 2007. Dates and location to be confirmed, but we have one hint: it will take place in a location with western sunsets and breathtaking views. Stay tuned.

Attn: Traveling Designers

If you're itching to get out of Dodge and looking for inspiration to act globally, design environmentally and work profitably, mark these conference dates on your calendar:

The Aspen Design Summit, Aspen, CO

July 9-15, 2006
Icograda Design Week, Seattle, WA

Fall 2006
