Membership Director

AIGA Portland
Time Commitment: 5 – 8 hours a week
Minimum Tenure: 2 years
Maximum Tenure: 6 years
Minimum Member Status: Any membership level


Overall mission:

The Membership Director finds innovative ways of building the AIGA Portland community and helps ensure the board is responsive to members’ needs. This Director is responsible for increasing AIGA Portland’s membership and promoting the value of membership through regular correspondence, event promotion, and member programs. The Membership Director is directly accountable for the execution of AIGA Portland’s regularly scheduled member communications and managing the Events Committee.

The Membership Director supports and works closely with the entire board to ensure that there is proper member presence in the chapter’s programming and overall communications strategy.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Work with the chapter board to develop annual membership recruitment strategies and goals, and be accountable for the execution of those strategies
  • Manage an Events Committee that hosts dMob and other special events for both members and non-members
  • Assist any board director with checking member status
  • Assist individuals with member sign-up and troubleshooting
  • Gather, report on, and develop strategies for incorporating member feedback
  • Create a monthly membership report for the board
  • Maintain monthly members newsletter
  • Actively update and maintain the Membership page AIGA Portland website
  • Create and maintain effective communication kits, including “welcome new member,” “it’s time to renew,” and “thanks for renewing” kits, to engage members during membership status changes
  • Build a list of lapsed members and non-members to target for membership
  • Be a voice for the chapter and announce any AIGA membership news and updates on AIGA Portland’s Slack channel
  • Proactively strategize and inform other board directors on ways to include member benefits in chapter programs
  • Develop and maintain a member recruitment presence at each event
  • Oversee a committee that organizes our chapter’s Member Meetup events

You need to know how to use most of the following programs

  • Adobe CC, Basecamp 3, Eventbrite, G Suite, Slack and WordPress

Shared Responsibilities of the Board

  • Attend mandatory internal events, monthly board meetings, and retreats
  • Show up and represent at AIGA Portland events (we suggest attending as many as your schedule allows)
  • Proper personal time-management in order to complete the responsibilities outlined in this job description
  • Ensure sponsors and partners are treated well and represented at events and online content
  • Demonstrate understanding and proper-use of AIGA brand guidelines
  • Actively engage in communications and meetings with representatives from other creative groups, firms, businesses, or other like-minded organizations that will create sponsorships and partnerships with AIGA Portland
  • Be able to properly speak about AIGA and promote AIGA membership
  • Actively document processes and resources to handoff and onboard the next director in this position
  • Must properly represent the chapter and adhere to the AIGA Standards of Professional Practice

Tenure

  • An official Board Director is committed to serving a minimum of a two–year term. Board Directors are encouraged to continue serving additional terms once their initial two–year term ends. An individual cannot serve more than three consecutive terms (a maximum of six years) on the board.
  • You are responsible for organizing and updating your process, contact lists, and work. These will become resources that you will use to onboard the incoming director prior to vacating the position.
