We as a chapter have been dedicated this past year to defining what our role is in equity and inclusion, and this is an ongoing conversation for us. We support and are committed to the following statement that AIGA’s National DEI task force has developed:
AIGA Diversity Statement
Developed by AIGA National’s DEI Task Force
AIGA, the professional association for design, is committed to creating an inclusive environment where diverse voices are active in all aspects of our organization. This requires a culture of inclusion in which all individuals feel respected and are treated fairly, and different viewpoints, opinions, thoughts, and ideas are encouraged and embraced.
We are actively engaged in furthering Diversity & Inclusion within the design community, and we support organizations with missions and goals that value equity and inclusion for people of all backgrounds.
We consider diversity comprehensively, including race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability and disability, age, and other factors that shape creative perspective and professional experience.
We understand that achieving equity is a continuous process, and we seek to maintain the highest standards of ethics, transparency, and accountability.
We strive to:
Support and encourage policy that advances social inclusion
Communicate and share content respectfully and with inclusive representation
Reflect diversity in our national staff, committees, and boards
Foster open and constructive discussions amongst all members and chapters
Engage with diverse constituencies
Work with diverse vendors, consultants, and members of the creative community
Celebrate diversity and inclusion in our programming
