Open Position:

Community Engagement Director

 

Time Commitment: 5 to 8 hours a week
Minimum Tenure: 2 years
Maximum Tenure: 6 years
Minimum Member Status: Any membership level


Overall mission:
The Community Engagement Director finds engaging ways of building the AIGA Portland community and helps ensure the board is responsive to members’ needs. This Director is responsible for increasing AIGA Portland’s membership and promoting the value of our community through regular correspondence, event promotion, and member programs. The Community Engagement Director is responsible for the regularly scheduled member communications and managing the Community Engagement Committee.

The Membership Director also supports and works closely with the entire board to ensure that there is proper member presence in the chapter’s programming and overall communications strategy.


Additional responsibilities include:

  • Work with the chapter board to develop annual community engagement and membership recruitment strategies and goals, and be accountable for the execution of those strategies
  • Manage the small committee and dedicated chairpersons that organize our chapter’s monthly dMob networking event and potential Member Meetups or Studio Tours
  • Assist community and board members with membership sign-up, troubleshooting, checking member status, etc.
  • Create and maintain effective communication kits, including “welcome new member,” “it’s time to renew,” and “thanks for renewing” kits, to engage members during membership status changes
  • Create and share a monthly membership report for the board
  • Gather and report member feedback to the board
  • Announce any AIGA National membership news and updates on AIGA Portland’s Slack channel
  • Strategize ways to include member benefits in our broader chapter programs
  • Develop and maintain a member recruitment presence at key events
  • Actively update and maintain the Membership page AIGA Portland website

  • Attend mandatory internal events, monthly board meetings, and retreats
  • Commitment to working towards being an equitable and inclusive organization
  • Review proposals for board spending and vote in the best interest of our shared mission and community goals
  • Show up and represent at AIGA Portland events (we suggest attending as many as your schedule allows)
  • Proper personal time-management in order to complete the responsibilities outlined in this job description
  • Positively represent AIGA Portland in communications and meetings with representatives from other creative groups, firms, businesses, or other like-minded organizations
  • Actively document processes and resources to handoff and onboard the next director in this position
  • Know and adhere to the AIGA Standards of Professional Practice and the AIGA Portland Code of Conduct Policy

Tenure

  • An official Board Director is committed to serving a minimum of a two–year term. Board Directors are encouraged to continue serving additional terms once their initial two–year term ends. An individual cannot serve more than three consecutive terms (a maximum of six years) on the board.
  • You are responsible for organizing and updating your process, contact lists, and work. These will become resources that you will use to onboard the incoming director prior to vacating the position.
