HUB All-Star Case Study

MLB All-Star Retailer Invitation Suite

January 22, 2012

HUB teased Nike’s top baseball retailers with a series of captivating invitations, each revealing more and more information about the 2011 retailer retreat. First, recipients received a wood box containing a book featuring the spa where they will be staying. Then, a notebook with a custom leather cover. And, finally, a box with an embroidered robe and their official retreat invitation.

How did Nike initially reach out to you?

We adore this client.  He comes to us every year with the enjoyable task of creating an engaging and creative invitation suite to send to his best retailers.

How did you (your team) approach the creative process?

The client requested that the overall look tie into the event location. HUB leveraged the resort’s unique style as a starting point and delved into additional research and inspiration. We then used our gathered inspiration to walk the client through our strategic branding and communications process to uncover the most effective direction and elements for this event audience.

What was your inspiration?

This year’s MLB invitations were inspired by the Southern Spanish flare of the retreat’s location: the luxurious Montelucia resort and spa in Scottsdale, AZ.

What were the challenges with the project and how did you overcome them?

The main challenges for this particular project were in securing vendors and processes for producing the custom boxes and leather journal covers. Because of the nature of the art the journals needed to be custom, hand made beginning with sourcing the leather itself. We tirelessly worked our vendor network to solve the production challenges.

What are you most satisfied with about the project?

Our ecstatic client and a beautiful addition to HUB’s portfolio.

Was the project effective and how?

Yes, the event was well attended due to excitement around the invitation and the attendees loved all of the pieces.
