Open Position:

Marketing Director

 

Time Commitment: 5 to 8 hours a week
Minimum Tenure: 2 years
Maximum Tenure: 6 years
Minimum Member Status: Any membership level


Overall mission:
The Marketing Director strategizes and manages AIGA Portland’s promotional and advertising efforts to build awareness and increase engagement with our content and offerings. We are looking for someone who can properly manage a small team remotely, and be able to lead, plan, and delegate tasks effectively in various time constraints. Proactive communication skills are a must in this role.

The Marketing Director is supported by and works closely with our Programming & Creative Directors and Committee Chairs to ensure that promotion strategy is addressed for all events.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintain an organization-wide promotions calendar
  • Maintain our internal event promotions submission process
  • Ensure all assets submitted through the internal event submission process are reviewed and posted on time
  • Ensure that every AIGA Portland event has social media promotion (prior to) and coverage (during) the event
  • Have a good sense of community design events (non-AIGA events) to proactively inform the team of any scheduling conflicts
  • Provide promotion support for any partner organization events
  • Be up-to-date and advise on social media trends and strategies that AIGA Portland can adopt in promotions
  • Be a voice for the chapter and announce Portland design events via AIGA Portland’s #events Slack channel
  • Manage event photography and actively update the AIGA Portland Flickr account
  • Maintain monthly newsletter
  • Monitor and curate the web postings and promotion of community events submitted via the Community Event Submission page of the website

  • Experience developing and executing promotions and strategies to build engagement

Knowledge of or willingness to learn the following programs:

  • Required: Basecamp, Google Suite, Slack, Airtable, Eventbrite
  • Nice-to-have: WordPress, Adobe Creative Cloud


Shared Responsibilities of the Board:

  • Attend mandatory internal events, monthly board meetings, and retreats
  • Commitment to working towards being an equitable and inclusive organization
  • Review proposals for board spending and vote in the best interest of our shared mission and community goals
  • Show up and represent at AIGA Portland events (we suggest attending as many as your schedule allows)
  • Proper personal time-management in order to complete the responsibilities outlined in this job description
  • Positively represent AIGA Portland in communications and meetings with representatives from other creative groups, firms, businesses, or other like-minded organizations
  • Actively document processes and resources to handoff and onboard the next director in this position
  • Know and adhere to the AIGA Standards of Professional Practice and the AIGA Portland Code of Conduct Policy

Tenure

  • An official Board Director is committed to serving a minimum of a two–year term. Board Directors are encouraged to continue serving additional terms once their initial two–year term ends. An individual cannot serve more than three consecutive terms (a maximum of six years) on the board.
  • You are responsible for organizing and updating your process, contact lists, and work. These will become resources that you will use to onboard the incoming director prior to vacating the position.
