Interim Promotions Director

Time Commitment: 5 – 8 hours a week
Minimum Tenure: 2 years
Maximum Tenure: 6 years
Minimum Member Status: Supporting

Overall mission:
AIGA Portland produces an average of 25 events per calendar year. The Promotions Director is accountable for maintaining an events calendar and executing digital, online, and social media promotion for all content related to AIGA Portland events. We are looking for someone who can properly manage a small team remotely, and be able to lead, plan, and delegate tasks effectively in various time constraints. Proactive communication skills are a must in this role.

The Promotions Director is supported by and works closely with our Programming Director and Committee Chairs to ensure that promotion strategy is addressed for all events.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintain the Promotions calendar
  • Lead a team of volunteers, including developing and amending role descriptions
  • Maintain and enforce the internal event submission process
  • Review and approve all assets submitted through the internal event submission process
  • Be the “branding police” and notify those misusing the AIGA Portland logo or other brand elements
  • Ensure that every AIGA Portland event has social media promotion (prior to) and coverage (during) the event
  • Have a good sense of community design events (non-AIGA events) to proactively inform the team of any scheduling conflicts
  • Provide promotion support for any partner organization events
  • Be up-to-date and advise on social media trends and strategies that AIGA Portland can adopt in promotions
  • Be a voice for the chapter and announce Portland design events via AIGA Portland’s #events Slack channel
  • Manage event photography and actively update the AIGA Portland Flickr account
  • Manage post-event recap content for the website
  • Maintain monthly newsletter
  • Monitor and curate the web postings and promotion of community events submitted via the Community Event Submission page of the website

You need to know how to use most of the following programs

  • Adobe CC, Basecamp 3, Eventbrite, G Suite, Slack, and WordPress

Shared Responsibilities of the Board

  • Attend mandatory internal events, monthly board meetings, and retreats
  • Show up and represent at AIGA Portland events (we suggest attending as many as your schedule allows)
  • Proper personal time-management in order to complete the responsibilities outlined in this job description
  • Ensure sponsors and partners are treated well and represented at events and online content
  • Demonstrate understanding and proper-use of AIGA brand guidelines
  • Actively engage in communications and meetings with representatives from other creative groups, firms, businesses, or other like-minded organizations that will create sponsorships and partnerships with AIGA Portland
  • Be able to properly speak about what AIGA is and promote AIGA membership
  • Actively document processes and resources to handoff and onboard the next director in this position
  • Must properly represent the chapter and adhere to the AIGA Standards of Professional Practice
