Welcome to Portland!

New to town? Welcome! Portland is located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest wonderland — and is famous for its rainy climate, countless microbreweries, and love for quirky creativity. Affectionately referred to as the City of Roses, Portland is a West Coast hub for the design industry.

AIGA Portland is a regional chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA). Founded in 1914, AIGA is proud to be America’s oldest and largest professional organization for the promotion of print and digital graphic design — with 25,000 members spread across 70 chapters nationwide. The Portland chapter of AIGA serves as a resource for the city’s creative community by hosting symposiums, workshops, studio tours, and networking events that are open to all. Some of these include:

Volunteering

AIGA Portland is run almost entirely by volunteers. Want to get involved? We’d love to have you! Whatever your interest or talent, there’s an opportunity for you. Please fill out the form here.

Event volunteering. Want a flexible, easy way to get involved? You can volunteer for an individual event. Duties include setup, meeting and greeting the community, and breakdown. It’s a fantastic option for networking and making new friends.

Committee volunteering. Looking for a challenge? You can join one of our volunteer committees. Duties include event planning, website maintenance, and operations management behind the scenes. Committee volunteers must commit to at least six months of participation, with flexibility built in to accommodate most schedules. It’s an excellent opportunity to learn new skills, add to your resume, meet new people, and give back to the community.

Professional Development & Recruiting

From recognized agencies like Weiden+Kennedy, to a wide variety of smaller independent studios, creativity thrives in Portland. Check out our agencies list to learn more. It’s an excellent resource for networking, job hunting, and learning about the local creative landscape.

Student Portfolio Reviews

THE MIX is AIGA Portland’s annual portfolio review. We connect selected applicants with creative industry leaders from companies such as RG/A, Adidas, W+K, Ziba, and Sandstrom Partners. Our intent is to create design relationships between two distinct spectrums: entry level and established. Through roundtable discussions and meet and greets, participants make valuable connections and gain the needed insights to become strong professionals.
